Storm Warning
So it was in an old era of insufficient chocolate
And there wasn’t a whole lotta love going on too
I remember she had packed her oh so pretty face
Which left with her name through International Departures Gate Two
But it was really really raining, coming down real hard
Tropical Storm June was plying her blowing trade about town
The lights all went out when all the lines all went down
As luck would have it the red candle sputtered, caught, and glowed
And there’s lotsa lots of fish in the sea, or so I’m told
So we gotta get us a Whitman’s Sampler
And perhaps a new forever love, for true
Blonde, brunette, or gray, even a gambler
But she’s gotta know as I’ve not the least clue
Next morn the tree killers buzzed through the hood
Cutting away the branches, clutter trees, and opened up my road
Twas a new Time for more insurance claims stories, a la mode
But I shredded all that old paper, I’m retired ya know
And the cat needs his vet shots and now I really gotta go
It’s a rough finding you’ve only two M&Ms
And which would be the wrong color, just to be sure
In this odd time of insufficient love and chocolate
Perhaps in a wrapped Arc d’Triompe we can find a cure
Ashland Train Day 2019
The chocolate’s all gone!
And graham crackers will never do;
What’s my poor sweet tooth
Ever gonna do?
Maybe go to Ashland,
Make this old bum budge,
See a nice lady named Taylor
And indulge in some famous fudge!
Come Halloween next,
Drive ‘cross a country grand,
Find myself in the center
Of good old Ashland.
So, let’s follow the train,
See where those old tracks lead,
Volunteer for a day,
And do some very good indeed!
The chocolate’s here all gone,
And dry graham crackers can’t do!
There’s only one option left:
Fair warning, here I come, COTU!
–Ashland Train Day is November 2, 2019!
10am – 5pm
The 16th running of Ashland Train Day takes place in the heart of Ashland, Virginia–“the Center of the Universe!”
Tu Et Moi
Hey! What’s cooking?
Girl, put on some pants!
I’m so so grateful
How you make can out of my can’ts.
Making birthday plans—
Who’s going out of town?
Can you tell me what’s coming up
Or how we’ll never live it down?
Tu et moi:
We still work this well-traveled path.
La dee dah—
Do you really want to do the math?
A glass or two
Usually really does the trick,
But you’re not that way
And I think I’m not that thick.
Wherever we’re going,
It’s the best being it’s homemade!
Let’s meet on the avenue;
We’ll try to find some shade.
Tu et moi:
We still walk this old graveled road.
La dee dah—
I could be your poeter a la mode.
Chocolateness coconut
Or a lemony doberge:
Sweet enough for everyone—
No taste ever to disparage.
Amused you’re a Muse?
There’s more on the way.
Let’s work this connection,
Girl, whattayasay?
Tu et moi:
With sunshine or a little rain
Thank you for answering—
It’s lovely to hear you again.
Ladeedah!
What’s Brown And Beautiful?
Overconsuming chocolate
A new vice come over around me:
Milk, semi-sweet, toll house dark morsels,
All to keep us in such a state of glee.
Safer than tequila,
Cocaine or texting at speed;
Give over that choklat—
A bite or twenty is all I need.
Who’s addicted?
Dr. Nestle is my bestest friend!
Add some five-spice to my hot chocolate
And sweetly bring this day to an end.
Halloween or Easter,
Bunnies or witches a-broom—
Cater us some cacao:
Give me M&Ms to fill this room!
Yep, it was Snickers
Where this vice had a start;
And the AHA declares
It’s all good for a heart!
Overconsuming chocolate,
A double-positive of sweet possibility.
Sharing your Almond Joy?
Seems a good start to me….
