Along rue de Whimsy

Is it true bubbles make things better,
Like a sunny day doesn’t hurt;
Like a lithesome newly met lady
With a surprising yielding tight skirt?

Or, regard granite-rendered shoulders
Attending a chin suitably cleft.
But, then, the storm is awash the bulkhead
And all Joy has upped and swiftly left.

Can you tell me the way back to happy?
Or, the land over near next to not bad?
We all need a Springtime vacation
From this our time melted into so sad

Paris plans wrap their Arch,
But the Old Caesar is so very dead.
And I can’t abide those self-gilded Trumpettes—
I’d very much rather someone else instead.

Magna Laude will discover une baguette,
As I count the steps to the third etage:
Gray, overcast, with a soft Parisien rain—
All cares forwarded to Le Voice Message.

Is it true bubbles make all things better,
Like a sunny day doesn’t at all hurt?
Salut, Soleil, comment ca va?
Our days grow short, time to be alert.

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie

A catastrophe of old goslings
Came sauntering on by
Hunting perhaps some pumpkin
Or, maybe yet, a little pecan pie

A horrendous howl of honking
Sliced thru the early morning’s fog
Perturbing the pigs and piglets
Of our farmers: Mr. and Mrs. B. Hogg

Seems our geese were quite giddy
Having been passed over for the block;
So, Thanksgiving would could be grand
For our fancy pastry-chasing flock

Peering perkily from yon copse,
Sally Gossamer Wingstep did risk a look
At the scene of gosling and farm
That rested askew beside the country brook

The winds nappered around from the North
Painting trees and cheeks in orange and red;
Our woodland fairie was on a mission
Having come in place of her ill cousin instead

Beyond the span of the Hoggs’ Farm
A fig tree grew splendid, round, and high
With just the right, rich and sweet fruit
To go in the Queen’s Holiday Figgerry Pie

Sally soared high up the loaded boughs
Selecting the most succulent figs to bag;
Thence to return to the Queen’s Kitchen—
Now weighed sore down, causing her flight to badly sag!

Overloaded Sally collapsed just past the copse;
The goslings saw, then quick-wobbled over to assist;
Flapping wings, cheery honking, and madness
Cut thru the thick new holiday’s swirling mist

Fairie and catastrophe arrived in a tumble;
Hooray, the figs to cook were delivered!
A freshened wind rolled thru the trees
Sending leaves reddening and beshivered

Sally asked how could she ever thank them
As they’d helped finish her mission on the fly—
And there on the morrow, our heroic of goslings
Munched on some of her Majesty’s Best Pumpkin Pie!

Happy Thanksgiving! Don’t forget to have some pie!

A Different Truth

False leads, false steps,
False love
Leading to devastating effects

Round about now
I haven’t a clue
Round about know
I really miss you
Round about now
The sky is growing dim
Round about now
I’d bet you’re dancing with him

Happy times, happy days
Happy pills
Rewriting how this all plays

Round about now
Things begin to rhyme
Round about now
I’ve forgotten the time
Round about now
I’d take a second glass
Round about now
Sanity takes a pass

Rock stars, rock songs
Rocky relations
Yielding a space that prolongs

Round about now
The page is full
Round about now
It’s all a buncha bull
Round about now
The whole world is getting high
Round about now
Time to type goodbye

False leads, false steps,
False love
Sowing old devastating effects

Toymaker! Toymaker!

Toymaker! Toymaker!
Please make me a car!
Make it go fast!
Make it go far!
Paint it hot red
With racing stripes of blue;
Yes, Mr Toymaker,
All the kids love you!

Toymaker! Toymaker!
Please make me a dolly!
Something to take to granny’s
When we go on the trolley!
Make her with a pretty dress,
Something in silver and gold;
Yes, Mr Toymaker,
I ALWAYS do as I’m told!

Toymaker! Toymaker!
Make me a kite!
Make it fly high,
Clean out of sight!
Can it have a long tail?
Will it spin in the sky?
Yes, Mr Toymaker,
I’ll let sister have a try.

Toymaker! Toymaker!
Please tell us true—
What is your favorite toy:
Izit a horsey or a cow that goes moo?
What do you make
When freeing your wiles?
Yes, Mr Toymaker,
I do see all those kids smiles!

Another Monday

Blossoming Southern belles—
Plastic as far as you can see.
Sooner or later the truth
Makes itself plain,
More or less eventually.

Travel over the old road,
Hope against hope for happiness new,
But find you’ve returned home
Spitting at the gods—
Chagrined through and through.

Gambling for a maybe,
Hopelessly hoping we young
At heart, we’re quite hopeful.
Why climb the campanile
Seeking a bell yet unrung?

Two storms amangling,
A third fluffs in the wings.
Furbabies tied to trees;
O soft fear strangles us all.
How Stupidity wretchedly stings!

Another Monday looms,
We will all try to do our best.
Be happy and healthy,
Be safe and remain free.
In the end we will all pass this Zen test.

Several Paces Past

Several paces past
The beginning and the end,
Comes the space wherein
We like to try it all over again;
Unsay that awful
Which was sorely said;
Get up earlier
And make the stupid bed.
Say goodbye later
And just hang a minute more or two;
Maybe life could be better,
Not this evermore darkening in blue.
Leavening choices cast
Between the close and over there,
We can render a space therein
We can go for the Happy rather than old soggy despair.
Yes, I do agree!
No, that doesn’t make you fat!
Please, of course I’ll wait for you—
You like me? Well, imagine that!

Sweet Bonnie Marie

Sweet Bonnie Marie
How do you fare?
It grieves me you’re distressed—
Need you a kiss, a hug, and a prayer?

May the following new days
Spread Light and Joy over your way;
And into the yon cold nights
May Happiness and Warmth with you the longer stay

Sweet Bonnie Marie
Of the Shamrock and the Thistle—
If anything I can humbly add
Know well all’s required is your beckoning whistle

Be Ever Grand And Light of Heart
And bring your Smile to the new day’s start

Amber

Trickle trumble quickly cast
On the wing the fairy flies so very fast
Hershipness flitters over clover field and lawn
Her wings cantering lift and soars past

Hither and thither Fairyland rises and sings
A new fairy has announced new wings

Sally Gossamer Wingstep greets the dawn
Her toils have subsided and turn blessed
A new fairy wee and oh so very loved
Graces our countenance and engilds the nest

Hither and thither Fairyland rises and sings
A new fairy has announced new wings

Marcus Featherstone attends to his Queen
Sally brushes the tress bother from over his left eye
Baby Amber Grace coos greetings to all in view
Cousin Katja beams hello and exhales a happy sigh

Hither and thither Fairyland rises and sings
A new fairy has announced new wings

Sally Gossamer Wingstep-Featherstone Is Now Wed

Just a hint of Fall pushed thru the leaves
A glint on a spare drop of rain broke the dawn
A sigh with a crunch of sheets and the kettle was on
Passing the sugar bowl with a blush of fulfilled beliefs

Sally Gossamer Wingstep will wed today

In a copse overlooking Fablehaven
Most everyone arrived on time, tears and smiles
Most from nearby some flew many many miles
No one stirred except a spare goat and lost raven

Sally Gossamer Wingstep wed today

Fireflies announced nuptials complete
Margarita cheesecake and fairyfolk beer
A party magnificent, all in good cheer
Sally’s eyes captured her Marcus’s eyes sweet

Sally Gossamer Wingstep has wed

Off to the sea the newly paired flew off—
Jonathan waxed with web a story keen
All knew the story but listened to the happy scene
But twas time to go announced a listless cough

Sally Gossamer Wingstep-Featherstone is now wed

Most Of All

The tickle of your gaze is comforting
The snug of you hugging completes
The joy in your smile is remembering
The little girl has grown
The young woman surprises and grows
Fonder of an old memory with the toss of your mane
Makes passing old acceptable
Graying can be countenanced because you have been launched well
For that I’m ever grateful
Thank goodness for you
Thank goodness I was there to see
You surpassing me
***
Love you
Love you more
Love you most
Love you more than most
Love you—
Most of all
